... Okay, they're getting closer. Think quick, Peter, but, you know, no pressure? Except pain of death, probably.
... Okay, any minute now, I'd really appreciate an idea, Brain.
So he does the only thing he can think of. Peter has a second to smooth down his coat, making sure nothing's poking out, before he pushes Maya against the wall (a little rougher than usual, and he'll apologize for that later) and kisses her for all he's worth. ]
[ She very nearly pushes him off, but then she realizes that it's as good an excuse as any to be in a private corner of a hallway they probably shouldn't be in.
And it's a really good excuse to kiss him- she'd admit she's been quite tempted to shove him into a wall herself several times.
So the way she kisses him back? Not an act at all. ]
[ He feels the way she tenses at first, and he's grateful when she catches on to his (admittedly stupid) idea. But then-- then she really catches on, and Peter thinks, Oh fuck, oh fuck--
That sound from the back of his throat -- that hum of approval -- is just as real as it is a show for the guards, who have ceased their angry muttering and are awkwardly making their way over. ]
[ That sound he makes actually makes her wish very much that those guards hadn't gotten here as quickly as they did because she'd like to see if she can make him do it again.
As it stands, one of the guards clears his throat and tells them that this area is off-limits, and they should take their make-out session elsewhere. Maya pulls back suddenly, doing a rather admirable job of looking surprised. She shoots Peter an annoyed look and says under her breath- though certainly loud enough that the guards can hear, ] I thought you said no one was going to come down here.
[ Maya gives a little huff, turning her nose in the air as she storms past. That worked better than it should have. Now all they have to do is make it out the door, right? ]
[ Out the door and to their getaway vehicle -- where Gamora and the others are probably about to stage a rescue if they take too much longer.
The chandelier incident hasn't deterred the party too much; there's just as many guests here as there were before, though there's a noticeable absence gap where a couple of the tables used to be.
Peter tries to keep their pace sedate -- they can't rush out if they don't want to draw suspicion. ]
[ She shoots him a look that very clearly says don't jinx it as they go.
But aside from a moment where Maya actually falters in her heels and clings to Peter to keep from falling- and, subsequently, has to act like she's had a bit too much to drink- they make it out without further incident.

My understanding was the help would be assisting with the party. I thought we would have some privacy.
[ He lets out a loud breath and takes Maya's hand, brushing past the guards. ]
Come along.
