He puts his hands up to interrupt her. ]

Hang on. We gonna just-- gloss over the fact that you kinda just pulled your gun out of thin air?

Oh, no, that was my digistruct device.

[ She tugs it off of her belt to show it to him- it's a about the length of her hand, and covered with glowing blue lights ] It digitally deconstructs things and stores them inside.

[ He kind of stares at it, listens to explanation, and-- ]

Magic backpack.

I--- yeah, sure, let's go with that.

It just sort of appeared after all that weirdness with the well. It was empty, because of course it was, but it's nice to have.

[ -- at the mention of that, he sobers a little. ]

... Right. The boon or whatever. Well, hey, that's awesome. Probably makes trips up North a lot easier, huh?

... You should let me know the next time you want to make a trek. Those tunnels are more fun in groups.

[ He wrinkles his nose, sucks in a sharp, hissing breath. ]

I mean, hey. [ He spreads his hands, taking a step toward the door. Definitely a challenge. ] If you're that eager to get shown up? Far be it from me to stop you.

[ She smirks, placing her SMG back in her digistruct device as she follows after him. ]

Peter, Peter. You poor thing. Try not to cry when I trounce you.

Oh, big talk from the mighty Siren. But can she walk the walk? The adoring public demands an answer.

You sure you don't wanna back out now, Maya? I promise I'll only make fun'a' you a little bit.

You talk an awfully big game. If I recall correctly, I saved your bacon the last time we did this.

Beginner's luck, kid. That, and I was giving you the confidence boost. Pretty helpful for the first day jitters in this hellhole.

[ She gives a pretty dramatic roll of her eyes. ]

Let it be known I wasn't lookin' to embarrass you when I came to see you. All I wanted to do was say a quick thanks and take my leave. You've got no one to blame but yourself for this.

Look, if you're having second thoughts, you don't have to come. I can kill monsters all by myself.

Second thoughts? Me? Nah. I never second guess myself.

Mostly because I don't think enough to expend precious brain power on reviewin' my decisions.

[ She laughs. ] Well, at least you're honest about it.

[ It takes a little longer to get to the tunnels these days, thanks to the giant hole they all live in now, but eventually they head down into the dim light. Maya fishes her pistol out of her digistruct device and holsters it on her hip, just in case. ]

[nostalgiabomb]

[ For Peter's part, he triggers on his mask the moment they head down the first few steps, blue light flaring to life and disappearing, leaving metal in its wake. It doesn't help much for the darkness, but it's better than his normal vision, at the very least. That, and it's badass. Makes him feel badass, and that's an admission he'll never make aloud.

His blasters are always holstered at his hips -- at this point, he never leaves his housing block without them -- and at this point he takes up one, leaving his other hand free, just in case. ]
