[ He makes a scoffing noise, then heads to the elevator himself, hitting the call button with the butt of his blaster. ]
And deprive you the chance to watch me work up close? Please, Goto, I might be an asshole but I'm not cruel.
[ The doors open, and he gestures for her to enter first. The elevator has doors on either side, and ostensibly the opposite doors will open once they've reached the lower floor. ]
[ She takes his cue and enters, already taking the liberty of leaning against the wall because she knows they're going to be in for a long ride. Why are elevators always so slow? You'd think they'd have figured this crap out by now, but at least it gives her a few minutes to talk. Once the doors close behind him, she hits the key to take them down, and then folds her arms, her pistol tucked beneath one arm. ]
So. You guys are adorable. I have to say--I'm a little jealous? You guys are even having moments and everything.
[ Jealous of Peter or of Maya, who knows.. Either way, she says it with a light, joking tone. ]
[ He shifts his weight from one foot to the other. Peter's not typically the kind to get embarrassed, but he's toeing pretty dangerously close to that line at the moment. ]
Watch my back, then. [ A beat. ] But try not to get distracted.
[ The doors open at an abysmal pace, but once they part widely enough, Peter starts firing to more surprised shouts, blasts of flame and electricity sizzling in the air. ]
[ Maya has not, in fact, managed to kill them all, but she's thinned the crowd significantly. The whole room is in chaos- some of the mercs have tried to find cover of some kind, and Maya does her best to keep them pinned there, taking shots at anyone who pokes their head out.
If anyone gets too brave, she simply pops them up in her phaselock, watching with an amused grin as the rest of the mercs try to scramble away from the explosion of elements.
Which is just what's happening when the elevator doors open- the mercs flee from their hiding places and right into Peter's blaster fire.
[ Is what she says as the doors are opening and she fades out of view, making her way over to the goons that Peter's line of fire doesn't quite cover at the moment, reappearing behind one and righteously smiting him with her omni-blade before she turns, depositing a bullet into another square in the chest with her Phalanx and then fading out of view again. ]
[ The funny thing about Star-Lord is that despite the guns, despite the fact that he's frequently out-matched strength-wise (because it sucks, sometimes, being a squishy human), is that he likes getting up close and personal with his enemies.
So he takes out a few dudes at range, hidden under cover from Maya's sniper rounds, but then he's wading in, drawing as much attention as possible to keep them focused on him -- instead of, say, the deadly Siren raining death from above, or the thief, darting in and out of existence. He keeps most of the dudes in range of him, shoving and kicking some one or two out of the small crowd he's assembled to fall victim to a phaselock or an omni-blade.
Between the three of them, it's easy work, and pretty soon Peter's shooting what appears to be the last man with a bolt of electricity from his blaster. As the man seizes, Peter waits for the sparks to fade before kicking him aside, sending his head into the ground with a crack. ]
[ Maya gives one last look around from her vantage point before signaling the all-clear and heading for the elevator.
Funny how this ride seems to take like half the time as it did with Kasumi and Peter, because it doesn't take long for her to join them on the lower floor, stepping over bodies as she makes her way over to where Peter is.
[ She figures she would let them have another moment or something, but in time she reappears atop one of the (few) desks that didn't end up overturned or blown to bits in the firefight. She sits, her legs crossed over the edge of the desk, upper body leaning over to examine the tech on the table. ]
I agree. This isn't over quite yet, though. Dr. Aenisi must be expecting us by now, yeah?
[ And when they're done, she is gonna come back for this thingy that she's looking at. ]

Anyway, she turns on her heel to make for the elevator when Maya gives them the signal, but she glances over her shoulder at Peter. ]
You sure you're okay leaving her? It's okay for you to say you'd rather be stuck in an elevator with your girlfriend, you know.

And deprive you the chance to watch me work up close? Please, Goto, I might be an asshole but I'm not cruel.

Yeah, yeah. Get it out of your system now, Goto.
no subject
[ She tilts her head. ]
That was it, really. That, and... I'm happy for you two. Seriously.
[ This is probably their odd version of a moment. Which Kasumi is of course going to ruin. ]
I bet she totally owns you in bed, though.
no subject
What the fuck, Goto?!
no subject
Oh my god. She really does, doesn't she?
no subject
I am not talking about this with you.
no subject
You are in so deep.
no subject
[ He's really not. But thank god he's wearing a helmet so she can't see the way the tips of his ears are reddening. ]
Just-- time and a place, man.
no subject
Uh-huh.
I bet you're totally red under that helmet.
[ #unstoppable ]

Goto.
I have guns.
I am not afraid to use them.
no subject
[ And then, with a smirk. ] Your girlfriend would miss me.
no subject
Then, I'll get her a puppy.
no subject
[ And, finally, the elevators come to a grinding halt. ]
no subject
... Wait, no, that sucks too. ]
I'll distract 'em while you do your ninja cloaky thing?
no subject
Just my style. Assuming, of course, Maya hasn't already killed everyone by the time these doors open.

We good, ladies?

Kasumi is, again, presumably around somewhere. ]
That was cathartic.

[ Peter shrugs, holstering one of his blasters. ]
I think he might have a sneaking suspicion, just about now.
[ He pauses when he hears a groan from the floor beside him, and he knocks the guy out with a boot to the head. ]
no subject
... I do promise I won't set him on fire, though.
