Yes, I am well-aware of that fact. [ it was hard to miss, but she's hardly annoyed by that fact. He was allowed to hate the cold, since he had no choice but to experience it ]

We could almost consider this a vacation.

[ He almost laughs at that, because-- it's kind of weird, right? To be afforded a breather after everything that's happened. ]

Yeah. We better enjoy it while it lasts. Knowing our luck, a dragon's gonna swoop in with some kind of army of basilisks.

[ She laughs- really laughs- because the mental image she just ended up with was hilarious ]

[ Getting Maya to laugh like that is never a small feat, and he always feels a swell of pride when he manages it. ]

What was your read on Roland, anyway?

He seems honorable. Not what I would have expected for Lilith, but I think we can trust him.

Seems like it sorta threw you for a loop when you found out she was bound.

That's the cardinal rule a Siren must never break- never fall in love. It's not something we really expect of one another, even if we have done it ourselves.

[ He's quiet for a second, but then he squeezes her hand gently. ]

It's a big risk, isn't it?

[ She believes with every fiber of her being that this is right, and she wants him to know she has no doubts. No regrets. ]

[ He senses some of it, her resolve, and he's-- honored by it, really. And that's a new feeling by him. Maya seems to be the center of a lot of his new experiences. ]

Hey, we should probably make the most of this break, right? Anything you wanted to do?

I... suppose I wouldn't know. I'm only familiar with vacations as a concept.

[ He laughs a little. ] Yeah, Ravagers didn't really do vacations. They sure did a lot of drinkin' though.

Well. I mean, we could just wander around for a while, then, while we've got the luxury of really big walls and soldiers guarding the main entrance.

[ His smile takes on a more flirtatious edge. ]

Well, we could always skip the sight-seeing and, well... [ And he trails off, taking a hesitant step closer. ]

[ She tilts her head, blinking at him ] And well what?

Um. He flounders suddenly, trying to find words that don't make him sound ridiculous. ]

I mean, um. We could-- just spend some time together, privately?

I would never say no to an opportunity to spend time together.

Whether or not we have our clothes on doesn't matter. [ Was she trolling him earlier?

Yeah. Yeah she was. ]

[ He smiles a little, but then-- ]

Wait-- what?

[ -- his brain catches up with what she just said.

Someone, and we won't name names, is doing his best impression of a fish gasping for air out of water.

It takes him a while, but he finally finds words. And those words are these: ]

Oh, I hate you.

[ oh, but she is smirking ]

No you don't. I can tell.

And you're cheating. You're the worst today.

Oh, no. I'm not cheating.

[ And she tugs him a little closer. In the still lake that is Maya's emotions, there's a sudden ripple of desire ] Mm, okay now I'm cheating.

[ Damn, as bad as he is at this, it's hard to ignore that feeling coming from her direction -- even harder to filter it out when he's feeling exactly the same way.

The next breath he takes is an unsteady one. ]
