[ -- in a way, he kind of hoped she wouldn't get back to him.

Because this is seriously awkward. And he doesn't-- really like awkward? Especially if it's him being awkward, so-- ]

Yeah. Hey. You, uh--

[ He licks his lips. ]

-- You been doin' alright?

[ Loooong paaaause. This is seriously weird. ]

Are you okay?

[ -- okay, he sounds honestly confused by that. ]

What? Yeah, I'm totally good. Why?

I don't know. You seem a little... out of sorts?

I'm just making sure, you know, considering what happened.

[nostalgiabomb]

I-- [ Okay, now he's licking his lips, and-- maybe this was a bad idea. He's-- not really used to being so-- brutally honest.

Saying "thanks" is easy enough. But meaning it is something else entirely. ]

Wanted to talk to you about that actually. But if you're busy, I totally understand. It can wait.

[ That seemed a little worrying, and there's an edge of concern in her tone ]

No, no. I'm free. Did you want to meet somewhere or-?

[ He thinks this is probably something he should do in person, yeah. And it's a wonder how so friggin' out of his element he really is. ]

Yeah, um. I can go to you.

I'm in house ten, if you're not too far away. Otherwise we can meet somewhere in the middle.

[ Now would be a good time to make a joke. Like, You pick the movie, I'll grab the popcorn. Or, is now when I get to meet the parents? 'Cause we're moving kind of fast.

As it is, he just says, ] I'll see you at your block.


[ And it's some time later before Peter talks himself back into walking his stupid ass to Block 10, but when he does, there's a hesitant knock at her door. ]

[ The door swings open and there's Maya, looking concerned. It looks like her roommates are out for the moment, at least. ]

Really- are you okay?

[nostalgiabomb]

[ He huffs a laugh -- and it's rare for Peter to look embarrassed, seeing as how he evidently has no shame, but right now? Yeah, there's some color at the tips of his ears.

And he's looking sort of ragged -- the result of a few sleepless nights -- but he masks it valiantly. ]

I'm fine, seriously. Don't worry. I just-- wanted to talk with you. It'll be quick, promise.

[phaselocknroll]

[ She's not entirely convinced, but she stands aside and motions for him to enter ]

Come on in, then.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ He enters, and true to his word, he doesn't really settle. Because Peter is a bit of a fidgeter.

He fidgets.

He keeps himself from doing it more by hooking his thumbs into his pockets. ]

I, uh. Just-- about-- the shit that went on earlier. You know. Before the creepy lady blew up the ceiling. I just-- um. Wanted to talk to you about that.

[ Her brow furrows a bit, but she nods. She kind of wishes he'd just get to the point, because all this dancing around is making hr anxious ]

What about it?

[nostalgiabomb]

I just-- I wanted to--

You, um, you didn't--

[ christ quill it's just two words you can just spit them out then you can leave ]

Thank you. [ He swallows nervously, mouth dry, and he suddenly finds the flooring so fascinating. ] I wanted to say thank you.

[ She just sort of... blinks at him a couple of times. ]

I... take it you don't say that often.

[ He flashes her a crooked sort of smirk and shrugs a shoulder. ]

Nah, I say it all the time, actually.

[ She chuckles a little, whatever worry she felt easing out of her ]

Well, you're welcome, Peter. I'm glad I happened along when I did.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ He doesn't realize how seriously wound-up he is until she laughs, until he finds himself relaxing by degrees. ]

Yeah, I am, too. [ And he's a little more earnest than usual, abandoning his sort of smartass tone. He might even sound sheepish.

Too bad Maya doesn't have a way to record this momentous occasion. ]

Honestly, I figured you would've, I dunno. Gotten freaked out. I wouldn't've blamed you if you'd decided to leave.

I wasn't gonna just leave you there. What kind of friend would that make me?

[nostalgiabomb]

I--

[ He blinks once, twice, then-- smiles a little. It's vastly different from his usual grins, though, which span from wide and (occasionally) obnoxious to crooked and teasing.

This one is-- small and hesitant, like it was surprised out of him. ]

Yeah. Guess it would've been a dick move. [ -- one he totally would've expected, back on the Eclector. While the Ravagers cared for their own, that care didn't really extend to turdwads afraid of tiny holes and falling rubble.

Any of those assholes would've left Peter to deal with that shit on his own. ]

Still, I mean. I just-- wanted to thank you. For talking me through it and everything. You really didn't have to.

I'll admit, I didn't hang out with the most upstanding group of characters on Pandora, but when it came down to it, we always had each other's backs.

The same goes for you. If you need anything, call me, okay?

Yeah, sure. Same goes for you, 'course.

I mean, I kinda owe you big still. For, you know, earlier. And for, um. Not spreading it around. [ That last bit is added sort of hopefully.

He has a reputation, after all.
